Based on rare documents from the Supreme Court of Western Australia,\u00a0Reclaim Finance was able to reveal the names of the insurers already involved in the existing project.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: var(--body_typography-color); font-family: var(--body_typography-font-family); font-size: var(--body_typography-font-size); font-style: var(--body_typography-font-style,normal); letter-spacing: var(--body_typography-letter-spacing);\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-1 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-flex-column\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-width-large:100%;--awb-margin-top-large:0px;--awb-spacing-right-large:1.92%;--awb-margin-bottom-large:20px;--awb-spacing-left-large:1.92%;--awb-width-medium:100%;--awb-order-medium:0;--awb-spacing-right-medium:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-medium:1.92%;--awb-width-small:100%;--awb-order-small:0;--awb-spacing-right-small:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-small:1.92%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\" style=\"--awb-content-alignment:justify;\"><p>Located offshore from Australia\u2019s northwest coast, Ichthys LNG and its mega infrastructure\u00a0is among the world\u2019s top 1% biggest oil and gas projects. The first construction phase of the project was insured between 2012 and 2017 by several major insurers\u00a0such as AAI (Suncorp Group) AIG, Allianz, XL (now AXA Group), Chubb, HDI Global,\u00a0Munich Re (through its subsidiary Great Lakes Insurance), SCOR, Sompo, Swiss Re, Tokio Marine, Zurich and five Lloyd\u2019s of London syndicates<\/p>\n<p>The project\u2019s developers Inpex and TotalEnergies are now planning an expansion phase to extract gas at least until 2060 thanks to a dozen new gas wells.\u00a0Experts from the International Energy Agency (IEA) clearly indicated in October 2021 that new gas projects are not necessary in a 1.5\u00b0C pathway. 11 of the insurers involved in the construction phase have since joined the Net Zero Insurance Alliance (NZIA) and\/or\u00a0committed to achieving net-zero emissions in their (re)insurance portfolios by 2050, they must take real action in line with the IEA latest conclusions.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond not insuring the Ichthys LNG expansion phase, Reclaim Finance calls on these insurers to strengthen their oil and gas policies by refusing to cover any new oil and gas production and transport projects (including LNG projects) as well as the companies developing these new projects in line with their latest net-zero commitments.<\/p>\n<\/div><div ><a class=\"fusion-button button-flat
