Many also have other objectives, for example the Bank of England has a role in achieving net zero.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\" style=\"--awb-content-alignment:justify;--awb-text-color:var(--awb-color1);--awb-text-font-family:&quot;Montserrat&quot;;--awb-text-font-style:normal;--awb-text-font-weight:700;\"><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">While the need for central banks to consider climate change is recognised through the work of the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS), two approaches have emerged.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A growing number of central banks \u2013 including the European Central Bank (ECB) &#8211; consider climate change is relevant to inflation management, but some central banks \u2013 led by the US Federal Reserve \u2013 take a narrower approach, focusing on financial risks.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">By analysing the ECB\u2019s approach and its limitations, we can understand why central banks in general must act on climate change, and how they could become \u201cgreen\u201d allies for their governments.
