The decision took place as Munich Re and other insurers came <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unfriendcoal.com\/insurance-companies-must-drop-trans-mountain-pipeline-says-global-coalition\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><u>under pressure<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from civil society organisations, notably the Unfriend Coal Coalition, for their involvement in the Trans Mountain Pipeline oil sands project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>If Munich Re refused to confirm the claims at the time, it has done so today. The world&rsquo;s second largest reinsurer confirms in its latest <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.munichre.com\/content\/dam\/munichre\/global\/content-pieces\/documents\/cr-report-2019.pdf\/_jcr_content\/renditions\/original.\/cr-report-2019.pdf\"><b><u>Corporate Responsibility Report<\/u><\/b><\/a><b> that it will not provide optional insurance for production projects or any infrastructure related to oil sands production. Furthermore, the report states that Munich Re will divest from any company deriving more than 10% of its revenues from oil sands extraction.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The German reinsurer is thus going much further than the French reinsurer: last year, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scor.com\/sites\/default\/files\/scors_sustainable_investing_policy.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><u>SCOR made a commitment<\/u><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to no longer invest in companies that have more than 30% of their oil sands reserves and made no commitment to no longer provide insurance and reinsurance coverage to the sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":28,"featured_media":3124,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[222],"tags":[445,493,465,495],"acteurs_financiers":[2440],"thematique":[2423,2419],"webinar_type":[],"programme":[],"class_list":["post-4140","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blog_en","tag-exclusion-sector-policy","tag-munich-re","tag-scor-en","tag-tar-sands","acteurs_financiers-insurers","thematique-fossil-fuels","thematique-oil-and-gas-en"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.1 -
