In this 126-page document, climate issues are tightly packed in a 4-page box. A quiet spot that should not be surprising as the ECB made a habit of <\/strong><strong style=\"color: #59bc6d;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reclaimfinance.org\/site\/en\/acknowledging-climate-urgency-refusing-to-act-the-ecbs-funambulist-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>talking about climate without acting to protect it<\/u><\/a><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #59bc6d;\">. Elements gathered in the last report reflect this inaction: if all forementioned areas are useful to ease the integration of climate, none does anything to even start it. Hence, the relation between the ECB and climate change mixes a \u00ab\u00a0wait-and-see\u00a0\u00bb attitude and statements of good-will, thus contradicting all European objectives.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the ECB, \u201call authorities must consider the appropriate response to climate change and to related risks in their own area of competence\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The central bank thinks it fulfills this duty by working on a better understanding and integration of climate related-risks, modeling the economic and financial impacts, participating in international initiatives and starting to adopt a so-called \u201cresponsible\u201d investment initiative for its own portfolios.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b style=\"color: #8ac56b;\">If all the work detailed by the ECB is useful, none of it has concrete impacts.<\/b> It does not reduce GHG emissions or protect the planet. Even the area of climate-related risks, that focuses the attention of both supervisors and financial actors, <a href=\"https:\/\/reclaimfinance.org\/site\/en\/2020\/05\/14\/climate-related-risks-we-didnt-even-start-now-is-the-time-to-step-up\/\">is not close to produce any result<\/a> and mainly aims at a better financial understanding of climate change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Moreover, <b><span style=\"color: #8ac56b;\">the ECB makes sure to keep its <\/span><u style=\"color: #8ac56b;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reclaimfinance.org\/site\/en\/the-ecbs-dirty-quantitative-easing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">purchases of polluting assets<\/a><\/u><span style=\"color: #8ac56b;\"> quiet<\/span><\/b>. For all climate concerns, it refers us to the strategic review. But this process won\u2019t have any effect before 2022.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b><span style=\"color: #8ac56b;\">So far, the only concrete measures taken by the ECB apply to <\/span><a style=\"color: #8ac56b;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ecb.europa.eu\/ecb\/orga\/climate\/green\/html\/index.fr.html\">\u201cdaily operations\u201d<\/a><span style=\"color: #8ac56b;\">, that\u2019s to say the practices of the bank and its employees <\/span><\/b>(energy efficiency, management\u2026). These things should be expected from any institution or company. <span style=\"color: #8ac56b;\">Using low energy light bulb seems a little light to compensate for the ECB\u2019s support to <\/span><span style=\"color: #8ac56b;\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/reclaimfinance.org\/site\/en\/the-ecbs-dirty-quantitative-easing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">38 fossil fuel companies<\/a><\/u><\/span><span style=\"color: #8ac56b;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><u><span style=\"color: #8ac56b;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reclaimfinance.org\/site\/en\/ask-your-central-bank-to-stop-fueling-climate-chaos-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Call on the ECB and your central bank to integrate climate<\/a><\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><div
