Since January 2024, a French senatorial commission has been investigating how the French State ensures that TotalEnergies respects France’s climate commitments. The commission, which is currently finalizing its report, held 42 hearings to scrutinize TotalEnergies’ climate impacts and the support that it receives from the State. The fact that financial actors were called to give evidence showed that policy makers acknowledge the central role of finance in guiding the energy sector.
