While new Banking on Climate Chaos data revealed a few weeks ago that Société Générale had provided $34 billion to the 100 companies developing the most fossil fuels (1), the timid announcements at the time of the publication of their policy in early 2022 (2) do not indicate a change in direction. The inadequacies of the group’s policy unfortunately leave Société Générale ample room to continue its support for the large diversified companies that are at the heart of oil and gas developments. We call on Société Générale to cease all support for new oil and gas projects and companies which develop them.
