ENGIE wants a new gas plant: Will shareholders follow?

Will Dutch taxpayers have to pay for ENGIE’s blindness? While the Netherlands already has 43 gas plants and aims for a decarbonized electricity sector by 2035, ENGIE wants to build yet another one. This project—stranded before even getting off the ground—should be a key consideration when shareholders vote at the company’s General Assembly in late April. Unless they reject this move, which runs counter to the imperative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, they will be complicit in absurd investment choices that jeopardize Europe’s climate commitments.”
