Coal: AMF called upon to sanction greenwashing by French banks

A new analysis by Reclaim Finance shows that major French banks continued to finance problematic coal companies in 2024. Despite their public commitments to turn their backs on the sector, BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole, Société Générale and BPCE/Natixis financed three companies developing new thermal coal projects and 16 companies with no exit date from the sector, or whose exit dates are not aligned with climate science. A year after Reclaim Finance asked the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) to put an end to this greenwashing, it has still not taken up the issue.
