French young people demand fossil-free pensions to protect their future

In an open letter entitled ‘Young generations are concerned about their pensions and are calling for the withdrawal of fossil fuels,’ Reclaim Finance and 19 French youth and student organisations call on French pension bodies to stop supporting the development of fossil fuels. The letter is addressed specifically to three institutions: Agirc-Arrco (the supplementary pension scheme for private sector employees), ERAFP (the supplementary civil service pension scheme), and Fonds de réserve pour les retraites (a public fund created to building up reserves to contribute to the sustainability of the French pension system). The signatories highlight these institutions’ continuing support for fossil fuel expansion, as revealed by Reclaim Finance in a recent report, and call for concrete measures to be implemented to protect younger generations from the consequences of climate change, in line with scientific recommendations.
