While the vast majority of financial actors continue to consider fossil gas as a transitional energy, the new report New Generation, Building a clean European electricity system by 2035 by the independent think tank EMBER confirms the need to move the European electricity system away from its dependence on gas as early as 2035 in order not to threaten the achievement of its climate objectives. This study presents a scenario for achieving more than 90% of Europe’s electricity from renewables by 2035 under three conditions: phasing out coal by 2030, phasing out gas by 2035 and stepping up the deployment of solar and wind power.
